Things I’m digging now – October 2, 2011

Walter White, you so creepy.

I just got back from a nice long weekend at home. I spent a day in Syracuse, I finally found suitable brown boots, and I slept a lot. Instead of going into further detail, I will recommend some “things I’m digging now.” (This might become a regular feature. Get excited.)

1. Everclear’s Sparkle and Fade
I picked up this CD at Black Rose Antiques in the South Mall for $1 earlier this year. (Best store ever. I need to dedicate a whole post to it, someday.) I had forgotten about it until I grabbed it on my way out to my car before my drive home. It was totally worth my dollar. Maybe even a few. “Strawberry” is a perfect autumn song.

2. Breaking Bad
Yeah, I am late to the party here. But this show is great. It’s like early Weeds, before Weeds got all super-unrealistic and full of Alanis Morissette. And, dad from Malcolm in the Middle, I had no idea you could really act!

3. Brothel: Mustang Ranch and Its Women
I stumbled upon this book when I was at the library last week. “Mustang Ranch!” I thought. “Just like the Black Joe Lewis song that my friends and I find so amusing!” And I do love me some non-fiction, so I checked it out. The author lived at Mustang Ranch for a while to find out what it’s really like to be a legal, professional hooker. (It sounds pretty awful to me, but to each their own, I suppose.) It reminds me a little bit of Pledged: The Secret Life of Sororities, which I read years ago. Both are interesting windows into female subcultures I have no desire to be a part of.
